Per la realizzazione di questo lavoro, l’artista si è ispirato al saggio del filosofo libanese Nassim Nicholas Taleb Il cigno nero. I cigni neri sono eventi rari di grandissimo impatto nella vita dell’uomo ma di cui ci si rende conto solo a posteriori. Senza senso risulta quindi l’ostinazione con cui noi contemporanei continuiamo a pianificare il nostro futuro basandoci sulle nostre conoscenze e percezioni quando poi la vita dimostra che tutto può essere modificato repentinamente dall’ignoto. Il lavoro è costituito da un frullatore al cui interno l’artista ha ricreato un microcosmo costituito da terriccio corallino, ossigeno e una pianta acquatica, trasformando così l’elettrodomestico in un insolito acquario posto su un apposito piedistallo. Il lieve movimento della pianta provocato dalle piccole bolle di ossigeno rimandano a un’immagine di pace ed equilibrio anche se, osservando meglio il lavoro, il pulsante dell’elettrodomestico incombe minaccioso in tutta la sua potenzialità perché se attivato potrebbe, in un attimo, trasformare questo piccolo paradiso in un inferno.

Cigno Nero (Black Swan)

For the creation of this piece, the artist was inspired by the book by the Lebanese philosopher Nassim Nicholas Taleb, ‘The Black Swan’. In this book the writer draws upon the infrequent occurrences in nature of the black swan as symbolic of rare and unexpected events which have a high impact upon the life of man, the importance of which is only rationalized with hindsight. Without sense results therefore in the stubbornness with which we continue to plan our future basing ourselves upon our consciousness and perceptions when life then demonstrates that all can be changed in an instant.The piece consists of a kitchen blender inside which the artist has recreated a microcosm made up of corallite, oxygen and an aquatic plant, thus transforming a domestic appliance into an unusual aquarium placed upon a pedestal. The gentle movements of the plant creating small balls of oxygen presents the viewer with a picture of peace and harmony despite, on closer observation of the piece, the ominous presence of the ‘on’ button on the appliance which if pressed could in a moment, transform this small paradise into an apocalypse.
